Rwanda safaris

Rwanda is one of the East African country that is found in the South west part of East Africa. It’s the smallest country in the community. The country is a landlocked country surrounded by other countries. This makes Rwanda to mostly depend on Kenya and Tanzania for all its imports and exports since it does not have the coast line. Officially called the Republic of Rwanda is one of the smartest and gifted countries in Africa. Its regarded as the land of thousand hills due to its topography which is dominated by hills. Rwanda lies in the Great Rift Valley region which is dominated by the African Great lakes. Kigali is the capital city of Rwanda, in several occations Kigali has been voted as the cleanest city in Africa. Rwanda covers a total land area of around 26,338 square kilometers with a population of around 12,6 million people. The country is among the top highly populated countries in African. Rwanda was colonized by the French men till 1962 in July 1st when the country got its independence.

The country is located few degrees away in the South of the Equator. Its bordered by the East African community member states those are: Uganda, Burundi, Kenya, Tanzania And others. Uganda borders Rwanda in the North, Tanzania in the North East, Burundi in the South and Democratic republic of Congo in the South West. The land of thousand hills is among the three countries in the world that homes the remaining endangered mountain Gorillas with other two countries being: Uganda and Democratic republic of Congo. Unlike its counter parts of the East African Community members, Rwanda has only two ethnic groups those are the Tutsi and the Hutus. The other small group which is composed of the pygmy group is the Twa which are only found in the forests of the country. Rwanda official language is French till later in early 2000 when the current president introduced English to be learnt from all the schools. From that time English has taken the country by storm making it the second official language. The local language which is spoken by locals is Kinyarwanda.

Rwanda is most remembered by many people by the great massacre of 1994 when the genocide happened. The genocide left thousands of Rwandese dead after the clash of the two tribes the Hutus and the Tutsi. The national museum and other sites still have the fresh memories of the incident where the remains of the people were kept for the memories of their ancestors. Till date the celebration and marking of the genocide day is public holiday in the country.

How ever much the country is small in size but it remains one of the tourism paradise in East Africa. The country has only three national parks those are Volcanoes national park, Akagera national park and Nyungwe forest national park. The three park inhabit a record of wildlife making Rwanda one of the countries where tourists see both African big five as well as the different species of primates. Rwanda hosts over half of the remaining Mountain Gorillas in Volcanoes national park. Other primates found in the country are Golden Monkey, Chimpanzees, Columbus monkey, Black and white Columbus monkey and many more. Chimpanzee trekking is done in Nyungwe Forest national park which also homes other primate species. Tourism is the largest foreign exchange earner in the country.
