9 Days Uganda Birding safari
9 Days Uganda Birding safari is one of the most interesting for our kin birding clients as most of the locations are Ecological Hot-spots and relatively within the wealthy Albertine Rift Valley which is not only Uganda but Africa’s Richest Zone for most endemic and globally threatened species of birds and other animals like the Mountain Gorillas.
Day 1: Arrival to Uganda
Arrive at Entebbe International Airport then transfer to your hotel, we may bird around Entebbe area like the botanical gardens and Entebbe suburbs over night in Horizon Hotel Entebbe
Day 2: Mabanba Swamp and Lake Mburo National Park
Leave Entebbe early in the morning for Mabamba swamp birding enroute, we may have a chance to see a variety of weavers on the way, Black headed Oriole, Black Bishop, and many others. In Mabamba swamp, we shall take a hand paddled canoe in search for the majestic Shoebill;
here we may have a chance to see a variety of water birds like the Purple swampen, Black Crake, Purple and Squacco Herons, Malachite King fisher, to mention but a few. After the swamp we transfer to Lake Mburo lunch and birding enroute, arrive for an evening game drive as you enter the park overnight Rwenyo Safari Lodge.
Day 3: Morning Game drive and afternoon boat cruise
Morning Game drive (mammal watching), here we see the Zebra, Eland, Topis, Impalas and some otherK game, afternoon we shall go for a boat ride in search for the African Finfoot here we may have a chance to see the Giant Kingfisher, Rufous bellied Heron and a variety of other water birds. Overnight Rwenyo Safari Lodge.
Day 4: Morning transfer to Bwindi impenetrable forest
After healthy continental breakfast at our lodge, we then transfer to one of the great birding destinations in Uganda. We will have enrute birding to look for the great western endemics and different forest bird species like Barred Long-tailed Cuckoo, Mountain Greenbuls, Grey Cuckoo Shrikes and White-starred Robins, Chestnut-throated Apalis, African Goshawk mention but a few. proceed to our lodge for refreshments as we wait for dinner and overnight at Ichumbi Gorilla Lodge
Day 5 Gorilla Tracking
After breakfast and briefing by experienced park rangers and with a picnic lunch, embark on a trek in search for the Mountain gorillas. These massive primates are extremely rare believed to be only 700 remaining. The tracking starts at the area where the gorillas spent the previous day.
The thrill of spending time with and observing these gentle giant gorillas is a rare, moving, awesome and exciting adventure that will leave us with long lasting memories of a truly unique experience it is an unforgettable experience to watch and photograph them as the little ones play and interact. We will have a full hour with the gorillas then return to our accommodation for overnight. Gorilla Tracking takes between 30 minutes and 8 hours depending on where the gorillas are found on that day. Day 6: Birding to Mubwindi Swamp
Today our birding will start early and our main focus will the beautiful leafy looking broadbill,
Black-billed Turaco, Olive, Elliot’s and Fine-banded Woodpecker, African Hill Babbler, Mountain Illadopsis, Yellow-eyed Black Flycatcher, Mountain Greenbul, Grey Cuckoo Shrike, Red-faced Woodland and Mountain Yellow Warbler, Chestnut-throated Collard and Black Throated Apalis, Stripe-breasted Tit, African Green-Broadbill, Mountain, Shelley’s and Yellow-streaked Greenbul, Rwenzori Batis, Regal Sunbird among other birds. Day 7: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National park
After breakfast drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park via Ishasha sector of the park for a game drive in search for tree climbing Lions, we may have a chance to see Topis, Bush bucks, Water bucks, spotted hyenas, Buffaloes on our way. Overnight in Engiri Game lodge
Day 8 :Morning Gme drive and afternoon boat cruise
Morning game drive through the Kasenyi track and Kob mating grounds in search for the Lions, Elephants, Buffalo, Hyena, Giant Forest Hogs, and other game. There after go for an afternoon boat ride on the Kazinga Channel believed to host the largest concentration of Hippos in Africa, a variety of migrant birds, Crocodiles overnight at Engiri Game lodge
Day 9: Chimpanzee tracking and transfer to entebbe
After Breakfast go for chimpanzee tracking in Kyambura, then transfer back to Entebbe for your flight.
